“Positive Behaviour Support uses the principals of Applied Behaviour Analysis to support individuals who present with behaviours which challenge which impact their quality of life. PBS is an evidence based methodology which focuses on assessing the function of behaviours which challenge and teaching new skills to increase the person’s quality of life and as a byproduct, decrease behaviours which challenge.

Skybound Positive Behaviour Support cover the UK, Europe and further afield to provide specialised services for children, adolescents and adults. Our team possess a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience and offer a variety of professional and client focused services to many families, schools, organisations and individuals.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT FROM SKYBOUND THERAPIES
We work together as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team at Skybound Therapies combining Positive Behaviour Support, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Social Skills.
Skybound Therapies believe that there is every reason to be optimistic about an individual’s future, with the right interventions anything is possible. We have high expectations of what each individual is capable of and we truly believe that given the necessary support, anybody can Reach for the Sky, One Step at a Time.
HOW WE HELP
Skybound Positive Behaviour Support offer a range of services for children, adolescents and adults who display moderate to severe behaviour that challenges, these behaviours may include:
WHAT WE DO
The Skybound Positive Behaviour Support Service begins assessment from the standpoint that behaviours which challenge have arisen due to the student skill deficits which lead to the development of behaviours which challenge. Assessment begins with investigation into the students skill deficits which have resulted in the emergence of behaviours which challenge fill that skill gap.
Assessment involves observation, testing and interviews across a variety of settings to discover the functions of the individuals behaviour (i.e what need is the behaviour meeting, how has is developed and what function does it serve for the individual). Intervention plans are designed to increase “Positive Behaviour” by building replacement and alternative skills which fill the students skill deficits, increase quality of life and render behaviours which challenge ineffective by replacing behaviours which challenge with alternative skills.
Interventions are personalised and individualised to fit the unique needs of the person and skybound Positive Behaviour Support service works closely with the individuals family, schools and residential services to support the individuals caregivers in integrating behavioural intervention into everyday life and supporting in adjusting intervention to ensure the correct intervention fit in each setting.
Positive Behaviour Support assessment and intervention methodologies are advocated for individuals with learning disabilities and persons who are at risk of restraint. Authorities supporting and advocating for the use of PSB include, the British Institute of Learning Difficulties, the UK Department of Health, The Care Quality Commission, The Royal Collage of Psychiatrists, The British Psychological Society, The Royal Collage of Speech and Language therapists and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
WHO WE WORK WITH
Skybound Positive Behaviour Support offer a range of services for children, adolescents and adults who need help and support for any of the following:
PROVIDING OUR SERVICES
Functional Behaviour Assessments
-
We conduct detailed Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA). An FBA is recommended by NICE guidelines and the British Psychological Society for those with a learning disability and who display challenging behaviour. A Functional Behaviour Assessment consist of interviews, observations, data recording by carers and questionnaires.
-
From these assessments, the function(s) of the behaviour(s) is hypothesised. It is important to establish the function in order that effective interventions can be developed.
-
Following the functional behaviour assessment, a detailed Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is written by our specialists.
-
Our interventions focus primarily on teaching functional replacement skills that can replace the inappropriate behaviours. By teaching the individual an easier, alternative appropriate behaviour to meet the same function as the challenging behaviour, the challenging behaviour can be reduced.
The Functional Behaviour Assessment usually occurs over two days, but sometimes longer is required. During the Functional Behaviour Assessment, we will observe the individual as well as have discussions with the individual if appropriate, their parents/carers and any relevant professionals. Following the FBA, we then write a detailed report and behaviour support plan. We then return to complete two days of training on the Behaviour Support Plan, including hands on implementation of the interventions. Following this we can continue to provide ongoing monitoring and consultation if desired.
Physical, practical and safety support for significant behaviours which challenge
If the behaviours which challenge pose a significant risk to the individual and their caregivers an additional component can be added to the Functional Behavioural Assessment Procedure which involves practical training and support on how to protect the safety of the individual and those working with them. This service is offered in conjunction with Descal8, a person centred physical intervention and release training which aims to use the least restrictive methods to reduce likelihood of injury to the individual and others during incidents of harmful behaviour.

Our Skybound Positive Behaviour Support Team are able to provide courses to groups of individuals, including parents, teachers, and other professionals who would like more information within this field of work.
These courses can be run as a full day which will discuss the topics in great detail, or we also offer 2 hour courses which will include an overview of the points discussed.
We provide the following training courses, but we also can tailor make a training course specifically for your requirements. We can also combine with the other Skybound departments to provide multidisciplinary courses, for example for developing communication skills or feeding interventions.
